The E-Z-GO Driven Clutch for 1991.5-2009 is a spring-based tension pulley that helps the coach transfer power from the engine to the rear wheels. It also is responsible for generating the low-end power the caddie needs to limb hills and pull heavy loads. The belt connects this unit to the primary clutch up on the engine. As the drive spins and pulls together thanks to centrifugal force, the belt pulls further and further down into the rear clutch. The closer the belt gets to the bottom of this pulley, the closer you will be to top speed. If you put a stiff spring in it, it will prevent the clutch from opening and build more torque in the process. This will limit your top speed, but bigger tires and wheels or gears can fix that problem.
