This very essential component to your golf cart does two jobs: cranking the engine to start it up and recharging the battery once running. When it fails, you may notice a slow or weak start, dim lights or frequent dead batteries. Replacing or repairing the unit prevents unwanted downtime and keeps your golf cart reliable.

How do I know my generator has gone bad?

Look for slow or weak cranking, the battery not holding charge or any abnormal noises.

Can I test the starter generator before replacing it?

Yes, a voltmeter can help confirm whether the unit is charging properly.

Can I repair instead of replace?

Of course, brush assemblies and brackets are available if housing and base are still in good condition.

Can a bad generator damage my battery?

Yes. If it undercharges, your battery will not stay fully charged and shorten its life. If it overcharges, it can cook the battery, boiling off the fluid in lead acid batteries and cause permanent damage. If you have a lead acid battery, check the fluid level regularly and top it off when distilled water if needed.
