E-Z-GO ignitors are a core part of the modern solid-state golf cart ignition system. As the vehicle's engine spins, a magnetic pickup device located within the motor called a 'pulsar' generates a small magnetically induced electrical signal and sends it to the ignitor. The ignitor then boosts the signal, sending it on to the ignition coil, which creates the large spark that prompts the spark plug to fire the gas mixture in the cylinder. A failed or weakened ignitor may not produce any spark at all.
