Product Details

All converters are reducers, but not all reducers are converters. That is a mouthful, but it's a fundamental distinction. The difference is determined by how they reduce the voltage to a usable range for aftermarket accessories. The Reliance 36V/48V-12V Voltage Reducer/Converter takes the golf cart's total pack voltage and reduces it down to around 12 to 13 volts. This way, each battery is affected minimally, and the golf cart's overall runtime is not hampered.

Minimal reducers only use two to three batteries and drop the overall voltage through a diode reduction process. This method generates a lot of heat. You know, as well as we do, heat is the worst enemy of electrical items, including golf carts. Things get warm and start to melt and then stop working. Whatever you can do to prevent that from happening is imperative. It also draws down the partial pack quicker than the rest, un-equalizing your charge and killing the batteries' lives. Make sure you avoid all the hassle by getting an aftermarket Reliance 36V/48V-12V Voltage Reducer/Converter from Buggies Unlimited.

Great product, great service
Happy with the product, happy with BuggiesUnlimitex customer service. I had a little self inflicted issue getting the reducer up and running, but customer service did their best to try and get me in the right track.
Very happy customer!

Great quality heavy duty voltage reducer
So far so good. Have a stereo and lights hooked up to it at the moment. 30 amp draw will allow for many more accessories in the future.

Installed on 1998 EZGO TXT that I converted from 36 volt to 48 volt. Bolt pattern matched to existing holes in chassis. Fastened down with 4 stainless bolts, washers, and lockouts (not included) Paired with GTX LED light kit and upgrade kit to prep for street legal operation. Will make additional comments on review of GTX light kit . Only additional material needed was zip ties, wring to connect to battery pack and switch, and electrical connectors. Do not forget to order license plate light (if required in your state) and wire in during initial installation.
Instructions for Reliance convertor were well written.

Reliance Converter
Got this installed fairly easily, had to build a bracket for it to attach to close to the battery, No big deal.

Does this converter fit up in the frame underneath the cart?

Thank you for your question! You can absolutely tuck this into the frame of the golf car. It is very compact. The dimensions of this converter are 7 inches long by 4 inches wide.

Having an issue with my converter. Stopped giving power to the cart, batteries charged and converter making a clicking sound like that of a turn signal on a car. How do I troubleshoot this issue?

Check you tube that is out of my pay grade....sorry

is it waterproof?

sorry for the delay, had a total computer meltdown---yes its waterproof--I have a fan,and led lights hooked up as 12 volt on my 48 volt system. not a major problem to install enjoy

Here is a small list of accessories I will be adding:
2 12” LED light bars
2 4” spot LED lights
6 mini blue LED accent lights
Radio/mp3 player
GPS-speedometer
Bazooka party bar (maybe 2)
A 8 switch bank to turn it all on/off

How many of these will I need or will 1 unit work?

I don’t feel that you would need multiple. I have a lot plugged into mine. It gets a little hard getting a good connection with multiple wires.

I bought this converter and while installing it I noticed that the red wire (accessory) was a different gauge than my red wire for my lights. Is it good to hook what looks like to be a 12 gauge wire to an 18 gauge?

YES, I HAD THE SAME THOUGHT, BUT FOLLOWED THE DIRECTIONS TO INSTALL. THE PRODUCT HAS PERFORMED GREAT, INCLUDING ADDING A CONVERTER TO 120 VOLTS TO OPERATE A BLOW UP AND CHRISTMAS LIGHTS ON THE CART FOR THE CHRISTMAS PARADE

On our Club Car DS the Wife wants to add 12v power source for heating blanket. Should I add this voltage reducer or just tie into existing 12v system?

It depends on how many amps you will be using. The Reliance voltage reducer is good for up to 30 amps. Need to know how many amps the heat blanket uses and how many amps the current 12 volt system is rated for? If your already using most of the amps the current 12 volt system is rated for, then you need the Reliance voltage reduced.

Are you limited to how many accessories you can operate off the reducer?

You are limited to 30amps draw power. Add up how much draw each accessories will pull and you have your answer.

Will this work on a 42v system ?

The window of operation for this converter is 36 volts thru 48volts. 42 volts come in this window. When you apply voltage to the primary side(42) check the output voltage (12) volts to make sure.

Should my accessory turn on with the key in the off position if I have it wired correctly to the key switch? Mine does.

You must hook all your accessories to the box and then they will come on when you turn the key on

Can I use this to covert a system that uses 48 volt batteries to 12 volt batteries ?

I not sure what you mean by convert 48 volt batteries to 12 volt batteries. This part will reduce your 48 volts down to 12 volts.
