Cart Subtotal:
We all have irrational fears like pigeons or replacing the EZGO Marathon Reverse Switch Assembly. Now we admit the childhood phobia, thanks to Al and Tippy, maybe a little silly. Not wanting to shock yourself when handling electrical items seems a bit saner. That is a good bit of voltage and many amperages you are dealing with; safety is critical. If you have ever had one of these systems grab you at the partial or complete battery pack, then you know as well as we do, it can hurt like reading Dickens for the first time in school.
Just like playing popcorn on the trampoline takes a good bit of finesse, swapping one of these golf cart switches out effectively will need skill. This is not a hard job at all, but this unit is responsible for swapping the polarity at the motor. Ensuring you get all the EZGO cables and wires hooked up correctly could mean the difference in the cart running, not running, or melting. This copper contacted switch will, over time, become susceptible to heat. This is from the natural shifting motion, which wears everything down. If this causes a gap to form, power will arc and make the problem worse.
This golf cart switch assembly is identical to the one that was on your coach. It will hook up the exact same way as well. An easy way to get this done is first to disconnect the main battery, positive and negative. This is the very first and last cable in the series. It is the only EZGO cable on your batteries that does not connect to another battery but goes somewhere else. If its a marathon, the 5040 is the one you need. They did start manufacturing the MED/TXT model in 94 as well so if your not sure on the model, an easy way to tell is to take note of where the forward and reverse is actually mounted. On the marathon, its right behind the lever itself under the seat. On the TXT model there is a linkage rod that runs from the lever to the passenger side where its mounted in front of the controller and solenoid.
According to the numbers you presented this appears to be a 94GXT cart. Forward reverse switch through Buggies Unlimited that should fit your cart the number is 5070 and as you can look at the switch you’ll see it’s a direct attachment no linkage involved. Similar to the earlier model for marathon carts there are some differences. Remember the model number of your cart gives you the year the last two digits are the year of your cart. According to the model number you gave 94 is the last number. And your serial number indicates a 94 or newer TXT type cart. Hope this helps just remember do your research first.
